ACT 3.2 — ARE YOU WINNING, SON?
Writing in Public Update #43
ACT 3.2
“Jireh is taking in those lost at sea. Turning tragedy into triumph. Jireh weaves the many threads into one.”
WHAT’S THE END GOAL OF THIS PLOT POINT?
Jireh is winning! He’s somehow turned scandal into redemption.
But more importantly, he helps the captain start their healing process, helping him grab hold of his own messy narrative.
Up until this point, the book has been building tension. However, the reader should now feel the tension easing up, and they can afford to smile at themselves. A slight relief that it WILL all work out in the end!
WHAT POSSIBLE SCENES COME OUT OF THIS?
There’s definitely a boardroom scene where everyone is shouting, unsure how to handle the chaos.
Most people are shouting over each other.
Some people are shell shocked into silence. Everyone is scared.
Jireh proceeds to make a speech, showing them how each of their stories intertwine, creating one rich tapestry.
WHAT FACTUAL/CONCEPTUAL ELEMENTS CAN BOLSTER THIS PLOT POINT?
If you are signed up to my newsletter, or have followed my different pages, you might have come across the phrase DEEP GOOD.
It’s a concept that’s actually got me writing this book in the first place. When crafting your vision, there are the 3 crucial aspects that I think are most important. Two of them are 1) Focus on others and 2) Make it adaptable to any situation.
Jireh is navigating the last aspect: OWN YOUR STORY.
I’d love to weave this into the book. I kind of need to. This book is created first and foremost to help people figure out the meaning and purpose of their lives. And approaching topics like this mean I’m doing the minimum I need to fulfil that promise (to myself!).
ANY POETIC ELEMENTS TO FIT IN HERE?
It’s about the multiple threads. The messiness of 100 balls of yarn unravelled and mixed in together. Jireh goes from trying to find his own thread, to find everyone else, and finding his thread so much easier and quicker.

I’m writing this book to explore the tension between happiness and purpose. Between surface and depth. Desires and needs. The stories we tell to weave our past present and future, and make a little more sense of our existnece.
We explore this through the eyes of Jireh, a writer who find the narrative in everything. Conflict and all.
